Corruption and Bribes at Telasi

The Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze has made another statement regarding the corruption schemes at AS Telasi. According to him, senior members of the organisation were lobbying the companies owned by people close to them in Telasi’s own tendering processes. The Finance Ministry Inverstigation Department adds that the instances of fraud at Telasi have cost the State millions of Lari. A spokesman for the Department states that representatives of the Russian company Inter RAO struck an agreement with the previous government, according to which financial inspections at the Khrami HPP-1, the Khrami HPP-2, the company Mtkvari Energetika Ltd. and the company Telasi – all part of the Inter RAO UES organisation – were avoided in return for a bribe of 1 million USD.
According to a premeditated plan, senior members of the previous government created a consulting firm named L & F Services, which provided fictional services to the aforementioned companies. In return, an amount of 500 000 USD was transferred from Telasi to the L & F Services bank account; 50 000 USD from the Khrami HPP-1; 50 000 USD from the Khrami HPP-2; and 400 000 USD from Mtkvari Energetika Ltd. for the grand total of a million.
