Construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars suspended

(CNA)-Turkish MP from the opposition Republican People’s Party, Ensar Ogyut, has said that the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railwyas has been suspended, News.Az reports.

According to the Turkish parliamentarian, three states parties should review the budget for the project construction.

“The project may remain unrealized unless new funds are found,” warned the MP, noting that at the moment construction works are not carried out.

In this case, Turkish parliamentarian said that after the introduction of BTK, the volume of traffic on the railways in Turkey will reach 26 million tonnes a year, whereas today the figure is only 6 million a year.

The construction of the 76 km-long Turkish section of the BTK began on 4 May 2008, which is conducted by company Özgün Yapı ve Çelikler İnşaat.
