Hyundai, it seems is very bullish on the world’s largest car market. No, we’re talking the United States here, but China, which has overtaken Uncle Sam country to become the world’s biggest car market. The South Korean Chaebol has been spotted testing a C+Segment sedan, that will sit between the Elantra and the Sonata. Both the Elantra and the Sonata have been big successes for the South Korean car maker, with the cars going on to become best sellers across many international markets. It remains to be seen whether the new C+ segment sedan from Hyundai will be a global model or whether it would be a China-only model.

We’re saying this as car makers have been building a range of China specific cars that are not available in international car markets. Meanwhile, an interesting aspect about the new C+ segment car that Hyundai is building with the Chinese car market in mind throws up the possibility of the next generation Sonata sedan due in 2014, getting bigger than ever before to make enough space for the new C+ segment Hyundai.

Once that happens, there will be enough space for the Elantra, the new C+ segment sedan and the Sonata models. The spyshots of the Hyundai C+ segment sedan clearly indicates the Fluidic design philosophy being followed. Like the Elantra, the C+ segment sedan gets a rising roof line and a high boot, features that endow the car with a coupe-ish stance. The Hyundai C+ segment sedan is expected to get two petrol engines for China, a 1.8 Liter unit and a 2 Liter unit.

Given that the Chinese don’t really dig diesels, a diesel engined variants won’t be made for our neighbours. If the new Hyundai C+ segment sedan does head into global markets in Europe, a diesel engine under the hood is something it can’t do without.  The new C+ segment car is expected to be loaded with creature comforts and safety features, like every other premium Hyundai. Also, expect top notch interiors, stuff that one now comes to expect from Hyundai cars. The Chinese online motoring press suggest that the 2014 Beijing Motor Show could be the place at which Hyundai is expected to unveil the new C+ segment sedan.
