Chabua Amirejibi’s Funeral

Chabua Amirejibi’s funeral will take place today. The public funeral service began at 11:00, and the writer’s body will be moved to the Pantheon for burial at 14:00.
The Georgian classicist Chabua Amerijibi passed away on 13 December, at the age of 92. The writer, who was born into a family of Georgian nobles, spent 16 years in prisons and labour camps.
He had twice been sentenced to death by the Soviet regime, and on both occasions, escaped execution by chance. Of his literary characters, Data Tutashkhia achieved worldwide acclaim.
