BERLIN — German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande agreed Tuesday to spend the coming weeks discussing proposals for generating economic growth in Europe, a first step to bridging their differences over how to tackle the eurozone debt crisis.
The conservative Merkel and Hollande, a Socialist who took office Tuesday, talked up their commitment to building a solid relationship after an election campaign in which Merkel backed then-President Nicolas Sarkozy, her key ally so far in tackling Europe’s financial troubles.

Bank of Georgia, the leading commercial bank in the country, signed a memorandum with Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF), Agency of Protected Areas (Georgia) and the Ministry of the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia. According to the memorandum, the bank will allocate USD 75 000 financing from the Future Fund of Bank of Georgia for supporting Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park during one year. The financing will be spent in the development of the park and in covering current expenditures.

LONDON—European stocks opened slightly higher Tuesday after German gross domestic product figures came in significantly better than expected.
London’s FTSE 100 Index opened 0.4% higher at 5486.34, Germany’s DAX rose 0.75% to 6499.16 and Paris’s CAC-40 Index was 0.95% higher at 3087.1.
