Candidates for Membership of Regulatory Commission Discredited
Transparency International Georgia has conducted its own research on the candidates for membership of the Communications Regulatory Commission that were presented by the President, and claims to have uncovered controversial information. As it turns out, all 3 candidates – Teimuraz Ghoghoberidze, Davit Tutberidze and Giorgi Choladze – are in breach of the Georgian broadcasting laws, as all of them hold stakes at telecommunications companies.
Apart from the aforementioned candidates, a conflict of interest has also been uncovered in the case of the Chairman of the Communications Regulatory Commission Karlo Kvitaishvili. The issue is being investigated by a parliamentary commission. The President has 50 days to present a new candidate to the Parliament.
