Who the Prime Minister is negotiating with regarding the sale of the TV9 company, is still a confidential matter. It is only known from Bidzina Ivanishvili’s statement that talks with one of the potential investors broke down on August 16. The Prime Minister has been looking for a buyer for the past few months, and is apparently prepared to sell it for a third of the initial asking price. According to the director general of TV9 Luba Eliashvili, the market price of the television station is 47 million GEL, and several parties have already shown interest. The former face of the channel Vasil Maghlaperidze is proposing to form a joint stock company and make TV9 publically owned. According to the public registry data, the television company is owned by the company Accept Ltd, where 80% of the shares are owned by the Prime Minister’s wife Ekaterine Khvedelidze. Mr. Ivanishvili has stated that he decided to sell the channel in order to avoid the allegations that TV9 was biased towards the Georgian Dream coalition.
