According to Bidzina Ivanishvili, there is no true democracy without the economy. The Prime Minister has made a statement in this regard at the unveiling of the Co-Investment Fund. The business sector must remain untouched, and whoever makes business in Georgia ought to know that his funds are protected, Mr. Ivanishvili said. According to him, he does not know whether any business in the country still has a feeling of being harassed.
Funds of $6 billion have been mobilised through the Co-Investment Fund until now. According to the Prime Minister, the establishment of the fund will create great opportunities to increase capital in Georgia. A new port will be built in the country, which will be able to handle traffic of up to 110 million tonnes per year. While the previous government constantly talked about constructing new ports, neither a scheme, nor a financing plan, have ever been in place, Mr. Ivanishvili has stated. The economic team has reviewed three alternatives for the project, and is now working on the most attractive one. “Lazika has a disadvantage compared to the port in Anaklia, which is several times larger and more powerful. Thorough preparations are underway for constructing such a port. This could become the most realistic project in Georgia,” the Prime Minister has stated.
