TV3 can exclusively reveal that the forcibly auctioned assets of the company Berta, which is owned by the Chocheli family, have been acquired by TBC Bank. According to a statement from the bank, Berta ceased operating over a year ago, and was not meeting its financial obligations towards TBC. The bank therefore appealed to the court, and forced a part of the company’s assets to be auctioned off. Since no other interested parties came forward during the auction, TBC was forced to acquire the assets itself. The property was put up on the auction by the National Bureau of Repossessions. In response, Cesar Chocheli has stated that the forced sale of Berta’s assets was unlawful. According to him, the Finance Ministry Investigation Department spent 4 months inspecting Berta’s activities, and extracted various documents during the process. The company was fined GEL 21 000. It was unable to continue repaying the bank loan, and its assets were forcibly auctioned off.
Berta’s assets have been valued at GEL 3 120 000. The company ceased operating following last year’s parliamentary elections.
