German carmaker Audi has recorded 13.7% rise in vehicle sales in May 2012 to 128,900 cars, when compared to the corresponding month a year ago.

Audi achieved 12.1% rise in its sales during the initial five months of 2012 to 600,200 cars worldwide and now aims to increase its sales to 1.4 million cars in 2012 compared to 1.3 million it sold in 2011.

Audi Marketing and Sales Board of Management member Peter Schwarzenbauer said the current order intake proves that the first half of the year will exceed the company’s expectations in all regions.

“We have therefore now set ourselves a new target of 1.4 million deliveries for the year as a whole,” Schwarzenbauer said.

The carmaker has also achieved rise in May sales in other regions including China, up 44.2%, North America 10.3% and in Europe, the company’s Audi Q3 and A1 Sportback models were responsible for 3.8% increase in sales.

In Asia-Pacific region, South Korea recorded the highest sales with a rise of 55.3% during May over the same month a year ago, while the region’s sales during the first five months of 2012 increased 48.4% to 5,876 cars.
