Only trouble is, the Manchester United player is seeking an even fatter pay packet than Theo

ARE Arsenal about to pounce for unsettled Manchester United star Nani? The Sun says so, claiming the Portuguese winger is “a shock £20 million target” for the Gunners.

The 26-year-old Nani hasn’t seen eye to eye with the club for a while now and rumours have been circulating for months that he could leave in the New Year. A move to Spain or Portugal was favoured, but now the Sun says Arsenal are considering swooping for Nani as they look to replace Theo Walcott, whose future at the Emirates “looks bleak” because of contractual issues.

Nani joined United in 2007 in a £14m deal from Sporting Lisbon and in the last season has found games hard to come by at Old Trafford. It’s also alleged he has been demanding a wage hike in recent times, from £90,000-a-week to £130,000, which could be a potential stumbling block for the Gunners. They don’t pay their players that sort of money, but it’s peanuts for the likes of Zenit St Petersburg and Paris Saint Germain, both of whom, claims the Sun, have been keeping a close eye on Nani.

The Metro reports that Manchester United’s long-held ambition of signing Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneidjer is in jeopardy after Paris Saint Germain entered the race to snap up the 28-year-old.

Rumours have linked Sneidjer with Old Trafford for more than a year, and speculation has increased in recent weeks that the Dutchman could leave Inter Milan in the New Year because of a prolonged dispute with the club over his contract.

United had been the front-runners to sign Sneidjer, but that was before PSG stuck their oar in. Apparently the Parisian outfit are set to bid for the Milan magician next month, and the Metro adds that PSG president Leonardo been in contact with Sneidjer regularly over the phone laying the groundwork. Certainly if it comes down to a bidding war, PSG are sure to trump United on account of their wealthy Qatari owners.

Still with United and the Portuguese rag A Bola claims that Alex Ferguson is once more casting an eye over Benfica winger Ola John. The Liberian-born Dutchman came to prominence for FC Twente and he’s continued his fine form since moving to Portugal.

Still only 20, John has apparently been checked out recently by United scouts with favourable reports being sent back to the United manager. A January offer is a possibility though Benfica are said to want big bucks for a player they believe has a bright future.

Talking of futures, Franck Ribery has let it be known he intends seeing out his days with Bayern Munich. Talksport reports that the France midfielder has been courted by several Premier League clubs in recent months, but the 29-year-old wants to remain in Germany rather than head west to England.

“I am bound to Bayern until June 2015,” said Ribery, who joined the Bundesliga giants in 2007. “I see myself extending my contract again… I see myself finishing my career at Bayern Munich.”

Finally, Harry Redknapp looks set to make his first move in strengthening the QPR squad since taking over last month as manager of the ailing club. Still without a win in the Premier League, Rangers could welcome Tottenham midfielder Jake Livermore on a loan deal next month.

The Evening Standard claims that Redknapp, who gave Livermore his first team debut while in charge of Spurs, has identified the 23-year-old as the right man to bolster QPR’s creaking midfield. The paper claims that while Spurs don’t want to sell Livermore they are open to a short-term deal that would see him return to the Lane at the end of the season.
