TV3 has exclusively found out about plans to establish a special commission at the Tbilisi City Council, to investigate matters relating to the company Tbilisi Microbus. Member of the Council Guliko Zumbadze has stated that the case of the yellow minibuses could soon reach the courts.

Another member of the City Council, Jaba Samushia, has been speaking about the obscurity of the tendering process. He claims that agreements of a corrupt nature had been reached between the Mayor’s Office and the winner of the tender, handing Tbilisi Microbus a monopoly in the city. According to Mr. Samushia, the company lobbied by the Mayor has been setting the rules on the market in its favour ever since.

The head of Tbilisi Microbus Davit Asanidze has branded the allegations as populist and absurd. He claims that the company’s victory in the tendering process withstands any scrutiny, and that all terms of the tender have since been fulfilled. The Mayor’s Office has also emphasised the objectivity of the bidding process. According to the head of the Transport Department, documents relating to the tender are there for anyone to look at and convince themselves of their transparency.
