Russia Moves to Extend Control of Media

Russia’s Parliament passed a preliminary bill on Tuesday that would limit foreign ownership of Russian media outlets to 20 percent, targeting several prominent publications critical of the government and extending the Kremlin’s control over the nation’s independent news media.
The country’s top business daily, Vedomosti, the Russian edition of Forbes and dozens of other news, society and fashion magazines would fall under the purview of the bill, which would force the publications to change ownership or close by 2017.

Georgia-U.S. Economic Co-operation Meeting

On September 23, Georgian Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting on Georgia-U.S. economic co-operation, which was attended by representatives of the Economic Council at the Georgian Prime Minister’s Office; the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development; the U.S. Embassy in Georgia; and the USAID Office in Georgia.
Participants of the meeting summed up the current situation in terms of Georgia-U.S. economic co-operation; focused on future prospects of enhancing strategic co-operation; and discussed the issue of conducting different contributing measures with a view to developing relations between business representatives of the two countries.

Emma Watson has extended a formal invitation to men and boys to join the conversation on feminism.
The “Noah” actress spoke about gender inequality and the launch of the He for She campaign at U.N. headquarters in New York City over the weekend because she felt that it was her “responsibility to say something.”
The 24-year-old, who addressed the Uruguayan parliament previous week, was made a U.N. Women Global Goodwill ambassador earlier this year. She took to the U.N.

Leonardo DiCaprio, the actor and United Nations envoy, has told world leaders gathered to discuss the “crisis” of climate change that they have an opportunity to “make history or be vilified by it.”
The Titanic and Wolf of Wall Street star spoke at the opening of the UN Climate Change Summit, where nearly 200 presidents and prime ministers, including David Cameron and Barack Obama, are due to pledge action to tackle global warming.
He told delegates: “This body, perhaps more than any other gathering in human history, now faces this difficult but achievable task.
