Shares of Facebook jumped 13% to $43 on a frenzied first day of trading on May 18, as investors stormed Wall Street to grab shares of the world’s leading social networking company.

British military personnel could be deployed to Syria to increase pressure on the Assad regime over human rights abuses, David Cameron has signalled.
As unrest continued to spread in Syria, the Prime Minister last night told fellow world leaders that more must to done to stop Bashar al-Assad oppressing his own people.

Flesh-eating bacteria may sound like a bad horror movie, but the case of a Gwinnett County woman fighting such an infection has many concerned about a threat that may be lurking in Northeast Georgia’s lakes and rivers.
Aimee Copeland, a 24-year-old graduate student, is fighting the bacteria after an accident on a homemade zip line along the Little Tallapoosa River that caused a gash in her leg, where the bacteria took hold.

Upcoming solar eclipse to project ‘ring of fire’

Thousands of people are planning viewing parties for the upcoming annular solar eclipse, a rare event in which the sun will appear as a thin ring behind the moon.
The eclipse will begin over Asia on Monday morning, when it will be visible in southern Japan and southern China.
In the United States, the eclipse will be visible on a path from northwestern Texas through New Mexico, northeastern Arizona, southern Utah, Nevada, northern California and southwestern Oregon late Sunday.

Oil prices slide to multi-month low levels

LONDON: World oil prices slid to new multi-month lows on Friday as the market was rattled once again by concern about the outlook for demand linked to the eurozone debt crisis, analysts said.
Brent North Sea crude for delivery in July struck $106.40 per barrel, which was the lowest point since December 21. The contract later stood at $106.97, down 52 cents compared with Thursday’s closing level.
New York’s main contract, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for delivery in June sank to $91.60 a barrel, hitting the lowest level since November 3. …
